We took a cab to Palermo airport an rented a car – small Fiat 500. Our first stop was Segesta, a Greek temple from 2500 years ago. It is amazing how these things were built and survived. It is still impressive, very well preserved, standing in the middle of nowhere, a part of a city that no loner exists. From there we drove to Erice. This town is on the top of a mountain. You have to drive up a very steep and narrow road full of very sharp turns. Bo didn’t even want to look down at the magnificent view because she was so scared. Erice is a medieval town with cobblestone streets just wide enough for one car plus one pedestrian. It is very picturesque. From here there is amazing view of the valleys, the Mediterranean and the city of Trapani down below. Because there is no parking within the city walls (except for residents), we had to find a parking spot in one of the parking lots outside and then schlep a few things to the hotel for the night. It was very cold here with a really strong icy wind, but we managed to walk the town back and forth from wall to wall until we were exhausted and ready for our evening meal.
Great photos, extraordinary views from Erice
